Our story

Hello, my name is Xu Huang. I received a full scholarship to pursue a master's degree in composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in China in 2012, and graduated in June 2015. During my master's degree, I had an exchange study at the electronic music laboratory at the University of Oregon. After graduation, I came to the United States to start my teaching career at home.

Since 2016, I began teaching at home and writing music enlightenment materials for group lessons. By the end of 2017, the group lesson materials had been animated into thousands of pages, and Teacher Alice joined me to complete the first step of establishing H-music studio. In 2018, we renamed the studio to H-music and arts, and we established this location in Foster City as the first location dedicated entirely to the operation of our studio since 2022.

How do I know when my child is ready to start learning a musical instrument? Each child is different, and whether a child is ready to start learning a musical instrument depends on several factors, including the following:

  1. The child's interest and motivation. If a child has a strong interest in learning a musical instrument and is willing to make an effort, then they may be ready to start learning.

2. The child's patience and attention. Learning a musical instrument requires a lot of time and effort, and if a child has enough patience and attention to sustain focus during practice, then they may be ready to start learning.

3. The child's physical condition. Different instruments have different physical requirements, for example, playing the violin requires good finger flexibility and hand-eye coordination. If a child's physical condition is suitable for the requirements of the instrument they want to learn, then they may be ready to start learning.

4. Parental support and involvement. Children need the support and encouragement of their parents during the learning process, and parents can help by working together with their child's music teacher to create a suitable learning plan. If parents can actively participate and provide the necessary support, then the child's learning journey is more likely to be successful.

Before a child is ready to start learning a musical instrument, they can be exposed to simple music and rhythm to cultivate their interest in and intuitive understanding of music. When a child is ready to start learning, parents should help them choose a suitable instrument and teacher, and work together with the teacher to create a reasonable learning plan and goals to help the child better learn and master the instrument.
